This cotton yarn is outstanding! A true pleasure to work with, and it produces fabric with a lovely drape. The only reason I haven't bought more is that I have so much cotton yarn it BOGGLES THE MIND.

my knitting, it has been mocked. again.
My sister was talking to her boyfriend on the phone Friday night.
I so owe him a punch on the arm. It doesn't help that he's seen me knitting... at Christmas, when my nerves were shattered, and every time I knit I spent more time ripping back and reknitting than making progress. SIGH. Also, hee!
BF: What are your plans?
Sis: We're hanging out tonight. Tomorrow she's going to [disbelief bordering on insolence] the yarn store [/disbelief].
BF: You'd better drive her and drop her off, then!!!
Sis: ???
BF: I don't think she'll be able to find a parking place at a yarn store on a Saturday!!!

Oklahoma yarn stores
The Gourmet Yarn Co
This is 8 minutes from my sister's apartment and it is a FANTASTIC store. I would spend a lot of time knitting in the back room if I lived in OKC. They have a fabulous selection of needles, including brands I've never heard of before, and they carry a lot of great yarn, including J. Knits Superwash Me Light Sock yarn, which is one of my new faves. I bought a skein of a beautifully shaded orange (California) and I so regretted not buying the violent vivid green (Vermont) that I called today and ordered it over the phone. I also bought a skein of Cherry Tree Hill merino and 2 small skeins of Claudia's Hand Painted Yarns.
It was a great experience and I intend to go back. Everyone there was welcoming and friendly, everyone seemed genuinely glad I had stopped by, and the atmosphere in the back room was fantastic. To me, anyway. My sister, who does not play with string, stuck her head into the back room and immediately informed me in tones of genuine horror that there were women KNITTING IN THERE! I attempted to explain to her that we do that, but judging by her expression, she thinks we're all completely deranged.
Sealed With a Kiss
I went to the SWAK in the City location in OKC -- didn't have time to hit the original in Guthrie. WHAT A FANTASTIC YARN SHOP! It's in a big lime green house, and the atmosphere oozes genuine charm. They have shawls and scarves beautifully displayed and yarn in a bathtub, yarn sticking out of chests of drawers, yarn yarn everywhere.
Mary (yarnbuzz on ravelry) was extremely friendly and welcoming. When I told her I was exploring the world of merino for the first time, she immediately put a skein of Madeline Tosh hand dyed yarn in my hands and I fell in love. Oh my god, the softness and the colors! I also picked up some Jitterbug (I have yarn from Wales, yo!) and Koigo Painter's Palette Premium merino sock yarn. I had a fantastic time poking around, and if I lived in OKC, I'd definitely attend a knitting meetup there.
Loopalicious
I didn't have time to hit Loopalicious in Tulsa, but this morning Waterlylly pointed me to a killer sock yarn called Tempted. Aptly named, let me tell you, because within the hour I had failed to resist the siren call of the Hazardous colorway. Turns out that's from the Loopalicious website! Next time I go home, I am definitely checking them out!

merino -- who knew?
I've never liked wool a day in my life. I can usually cope with wool/cotton blends, and some wool/nylon blends are tolerable to me, but I can't stand to touch 100% wool.
Then Lyl showed me her beautiful skein of Socks That Rock in Korppi. It was so beautiful that I had to hold it, and much to my shock, I could hold it. It was soft and springy and wonderful. So I threw caution to the wind and bought a skein off Ravelry to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Nope, still soft, still wonderful.
So I went to Oklahoma City this past weekend to visit my sister and I went on a merino yarn rampage. I went to The Gourmet Yarn Company and SWAK in the City and went completely nuts, and I regret nothing. Nothing, I say! HAHAHA!
*ahem* Well, I regret the projects in process that really need to be finished before diving into the new yarn stash, but that's about it. :)
